Traditional Greek sweet balls in sugar syrup.

INGREDIENTS

Dough

  • flour - 320 g.;
  • water - 320 ml.;
  • salt - 1/2 tsp.;
  • sugar - 1/2 tsp.;
  • dry yeast - 2 tsp.;
  • vegetable or olive oil - 1 tbsp.

Syrup

  • boiling water - 50 ml.;
  • sugar - 100 g.;
  • lemon zest - 1 tsp. (without slide);
  • lemon juice - a few drops;
  • honey - 1 tbsp.;
  • vegetable oil for frying.

 

METHOD

  1. Sift flour into a bowl, add yeast, sugar and salt, mix. Then gradually pour in warm water, mix thoroughly so that the dough is homogeneous, without lumps, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, mix. The dough has a consistency similar to pancakes. Cover the bowl with the dough with a towel or film and put it in a warm place for 1 hour - it should rise well.
  2. Prepare deep-frying: in a deep and wide frying pan (you can take a saucepan), heat a large amount of vegetable oil well. You can form donuts with your hands greased with vegetable oil, or with two tablespoons (take one dough, remove the other). I molded it with my hands: take part of the dough in my hand and squeeze balls (slightly larger than a walnut) into deep fat through the thumb and forefinger. Fry until golden brown. Place finished Greek donuts on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  3. Preparation of syrup: Pour sugar into a small saucepan or ladle, pour boiling water over it. Add lemon zest and juice, put on fire and bring to complete dissolution of sugar. Remove the syrup from heat, put honey, mix. Ready Greek donuts "Loukoumades" put on a dish and pour hot honey syrup. Some of the syrup can be left for serving.
